Years ago, when I co-founded AMEC (International Association for Measurement and Evaluation of Communication), the mantra at the time was simple:
“You can’t measure PR”. We proved that wrong.
Then came: “There’s no point in measuring our media coverage”. We proved that wrong too.
And then social media arrived. The steady stream became Niagara Falls. Organisations rushed to capture everything, convinced that more data meant more insight.
But were you any closer to understanding direction, force - or impact?
Next came:
Not necessarily more clarity.
Over the past three decades that we’ve been running Echo, communications research has evolved from counting coverage to understanding outcomes of organisational outputs, to focusing on stakeholder expectations, influencers and behaviour.
Now the question is different: “Can AI do it all?”
Author Yuval Noah Harari writes in Nexus: “Nobody disputes that humans today have a lot more information and power than in the Stone Age, but it is far from certain that we understand ourselves and our role in the universe much better.”
That observation feels particularly relevant to communications.
We have more information than ever.
But do we have more understanding?
Technology – including AI – is a powerful enabler. But it is not, on its own, the answer or as yet, the master. In fact, it raises deeper questions:
In addition to our global stakeholder research and reputation valuation streams, that is why we have evolved Echo’s media intelligence capability into Echo Vantage: Strategic Intelligence. Engineered for decision-makers.
Human-led. AI-powered. Decision-ready.
We have modernised our infrastructure and integrated AI across the media analysis lifecycle. And we have done so with expert guidance and latest AI tech.
Echo Vantage is built with the Human-in-the-Loop. AI supports speed and consistency. Our experienced analysts retain the oversight: control over interpretation, validation and strategic meaning.
Echo Vantage is not offering another locked-in dashboard.
We are platform and sourcing agnostic because no single media monitoring system captures everything. No system guarantees 100% coverage. And no algorithm understands stakeholder sensitivity or reputation drivers the way experienced professionals do.
The result is one trusted, decision-grade version of the truth.
Why this matters
Communications leaders today are expected to answer serious questions:
Real-time noise cannot answer those questions. Validated strategic intelligence can.
Echo Vantage enhances access and usability while maintaining verified data standards.
A stronger standard
Throughout my career, one principle has guided me:
We have built Echo Vantage not to chase AI hype, but to raise the standard combining our very deep expertise with best technology.
Because more tech alone is not the answer. Better intelligence is.
If you are questioning whether your current AI tools and dashboards truly support executive decision-making - or simply generate more distraction – I would welcome a conversation.
Serious decisions deserve serious intelligence.
