At our recent Leadership Breakfast, hosted by the London Stock Exchange, Andria Vidler, former CEO of Allwyn UK (the operator of The National Lottery) and Gillian Taylor, Communications Director, were in conversation with Echo’s Chair, Sally Osman LVO.
The National Lottery is a remarkable institution: a unique model that has raised more than £53 billion for good causes across the UK since its creation over 30 years ago. And the evidence of that impact is all around us: in communities, sport, arts and heritage, and in the extraordinary stories of winners and beneficiaries whose lives have been changed.
There is a special energy when you can see purpose translated into action and impact on the ground. Harnessing that energy, internally as well as externally, was one of the powerful themes of our discussion.
Because reputation cannot sit in just one department. It takes the CEO, communications, operations, colleagues and stakeholders working together, breaking down silos, aligning once-competing teams and moving people beyond compliance to genuine advocacy, proud of both their contribution and the difference it makes.
And what underpins successful transformation? Energy, openness, resilience, a willingness to challenge and be challenged, along with an enduring sense of optimism and purpose.
Trust may take years to build, but sustaining it and turning purpose into meaningful impact is everyone’s job.
Thank you Andria and Gillian for such an open and candid conversation, Sally for guiding it so expertly, and the senior leaders around our table who contributed so wisely. And not least, to Paul Fincham for hosting us in the iconic London Stock Exchange.
